Gender -

Gender links in with stereotypes (people would normally believe a female gender would be stereotyped into listening pop music rather than rock for example)
When a women is featured on the front cover of a magazine as the main image in can encourage male readers (for example the magazine ‘mix mag’ which featured a women in her bikini in a swimming pool which attracted male readers)
Comparison of the images on magazines:
- all of the images on the magazines detonate the same thing of young women however the connotations say different things of what you feel from the image. For example the denotations means ‘the font is red’ but the connotations would mean ‘the front is red which signifies blood’
1)      Q magazine signifies Lily Allen topless standing with her back to the audience however turning back giving the audience a seductive glare
2)      Kerrang magazine connotates quite a sexy well off women wearing a low cut top – giving of the impression she is giving an inviting glare to the audience which can attract you into reading the magazine
3)      Mix mag magazine gives a different impression compared to the other 2 magazines due to the position she is in while wearing such little clothing. (mix mag magazine has a readership of 60-40, 60% of the readership being male) The male readership may be higher due to the use of women on the front cover.
In the magazine mix mag the young female is in a pool surrounded by a pink and yellow Lillo placing her hands in the air presenting she is a very confident character.
The famous celebrity of Lily Allen on Q magazine would draw in both female and male audiences as she is a well known popular celebrity which would discuss people would want to read about her / form their own personal identity from what she has to say in the magazine. This is the same for kerrang magazine as Christina Scabia is featured as the main image signifying a classy woman.
Social class of Q magazine is B-C due to the high demand of readers.
Kerrangs social class for this particular magazine would be B due to the celebrity the magazine features, however normally kerrang magazines normally target teenagers C1-D
Mix mag’s social class is the same as Q magazine because on the front cover of the magazine is features a trip to win to Ibiza which only adults would be able to purchase, drawing the magazine away from teenagers.
